A Bright Shining Season

Warm weather is well under way, and you'd do well to take advantage of it. The churches have all of their "summer"-style parties and outings at this time of the year. One of these might be the perfect way for you to get to know the people in this congregation.

It's time for the children to be in school again. Some of them will be farther away as they begin again, finding their way in college classrooms we've not seen for decades. What foundation have we provided for their lives? Can they decide between right and wrong, and do it for the correct reasons? Some of that, of course, depends on their inherent character, but parents, teachers, and pastors help to mold that character. Have we done a good job? What has been our example for the young people watching our lives?

We are studying the lives of children in poverty and the ways in which the rest of us can help them to escape that condition. Along the way, it's possible that we could make changes in one or more of our existing ministries, and we'd like you to be a participant in that change. Change or not, we want to understand how this terrible situation came to be and, somehow, to make it better for all concerned.

We'll start right here at home: East Peoria, Washington, Peoria, Pekin, and Creve Coeur. While it's true that we cannot directly change the world, it is equally well-known that one person can truly make a difference in the lives of those they touch. Come be that life-changer, and we will work together for a better tomorrow.
